I'm a HUGE Apple fan, but for fuck's sake, enough is enough. I mean it's just a phone, and it's not even released anywhere but the US, and you have no choice of carrier. Have to admit the technology is quite intriguing, but I'd rather see it in another device.

How about a new topic for Macrumors? Instead, might I suggest any of their upcoming computers for discussion?!?! I've always been a fan of their products but there are some exciting things they’re doing these days, some new products that are changing the face of consumer trends. There's a revolution going on in how we consume media - that is all forms of information: audio, written text and video. I read a report recently that stated the computer now (in the UK at least) is the device people are spending more time in front of than any other - that includes television.

Which devices do I love most?

At the top of the list of my favourite Apple devices are the iPods. They're fucking brilliant. To be able to store all my CDs on one device I can carry in my pocket is amazing. I also listen to podcasts - my favourite being the Rachel Maddow Show on Air America Radio (politics!!), which I enjoy listening to on my iPod. Travelling is fantastic with my iPod and travel speakers because I have my entire music library with me wherever I go. And the other big use of my iPod is audio books. Unabridged books from Audible.com are the bees knees. I’ve got one of the 4G iPods so mine won’t even display pictures or video (I’m waiting for the newest video iPod coming out soon).

I’m also an iMac fan – I’m on my second one of those. But here’s what’s the most interesting thing coming out – they’re new iTV device. It’s just a project code name (or foreshadowing of an Elgato acquisition). Read up on it if you haven’t heard. Essentially, it streams content wirelessly from your computer to your television in HD. This is what I’ve been waiting for from someone. I’ve got all this content on my iMac from a variety of sources. I’ve got photos in iPhoto, music, audiobooks and podcasts in iTunes. But I’ve also got video I download from torrent sites, so I’ve got movies, documentaries, television shows, clips, etc available for viewing without any easy way to get them to the television today. I can rip my DVDs to my computer and with a bit of storage I could actually do away with the DVD media. Imagine that – no media at all needed. Fuck Sony and Microsoft and their BluRay – HDDVD fucking war – this is where government should have the power to step in and say, “fuck you, you bastards, stop with these petty disagreements which do nothing but line your pockets and hurt the consumer.”

What are the catalysts for this evolution??

First, the element of time is being eliminated from traditional content delivery. You can view a show anytime, or listen to a radio broadcast anytime – you are in the driver’s seat and control when you consume the media. The other change is in the media they deliver content on. The newspaper is dying – people now turn to computers for their source of information above paper. Devices such as the new Sony eBook Reader are enabling a quicker demise of newsprint. Imagine a reader that can hold numerous books or newspapers that you could download daily from your computer or visit a kiosk on the street and download the latest edition of the news for reading at your leisure. Traditional forms of media consumption are changing faster than you realise. That cable connection delivers more and more to the computer than the set top box to your television.

I’ve droned on and on, but mark my words, times, they are a changin.
Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1162049602058872912006-10-28T16:29:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:47:19.450+01:00My sins

Your Deadly Sins

Greed: 60%

Sloth: 60%

Lust: 40%

Wrath: 40%

Envy: 20%

Gluttony: 20%

Pride: 0%

Chance You'll Go to Hell: 34%

You will die love and feared by many. Sometimes it's the underground, sometimes overland train (or both). From time to time I even take the bus. There are some things that annoy me immensely about my fellow passengers.

The first has to be people listening to MP3 players so loudly that I can hear their music. Now I have my own MP3 player and two things stop others from hearing what I'm listening to. First, I am courteous when it comes to listening and don't select volumes that are outrageous. The other thing I think that affects this is that I have a quality set of earphones. Sometimes I hear others ' music so loudly I wonder to myself if they've inserted them into their ears backwards and the sound piece is pointing outward. Most often it's kids in their teens, so I wouldn't put it past them to be using them improperly. Hell, so often I see kids with stockings on their heads, shorts around their knees, shoes untied I think to myself, how did their parents fuck up so badly when teaching them basic things like which items of clothing go on which body parts and in which way. But I digress.

Another thing I see all too often on public transport is women applying makeup, especially annoying when the carriages are full. Hell, maybe I should bring a bucket and sponge and shower on the underground to save time in the morning. Or I could whip out my finger nail clipper and clip away. Maybe I could bring my electric razor along and shave. Why the fuck do they think it's okay to apply their daily face caking material in front of me? Right next to me?! I don't want to see someone getting ready for their day next to me, and I don't want to smell that crap they put on their faces - it's disgusting, and rude. Hey, bitches, don't leave the house until you're completely ready, or don't leave at all.

While I'm having a go at women, let me say that just because you leave your pastry in the bag you bought it in and pick a tiny piece out each time you bite doesn't mean you're not consuming calories. It's like the fact it's hidden from view they think it means there are no calories. Watch next time you're in public. You're bound to hear some woman rattling her paper bag, stuffing her face with little bites that she pulls from inside the bag, one annoying bag russling after another. Honey, I've got news - those thighs don't lie, that's a jelly donut in that bag and you're annoying the fuck out of everyone by making all that noise with that bag each time you want to stuff a bite in that fucking gullet of yours.

Back to kids. Those little fuckers that are now listening to their mobile phones as if they were portable boom boxes should be thrown off the train or bus, put in front of it and run over. Do kids today have no manners? And those fucking rubblecans are so against planned parenthood.

What's your biggest annoyance?Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1160942623088459182006-10-15T20:49:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:58.209+01:00Noam Chomsky is my gawdI'm an atheist (sometimes I downgrade that label to agnostic) - regardless, I worship Noam Chomsky. His writings, speeches and debates never cease to amaze me. I can't get enough of them. I'm constantly amazed when I read his work or watch a speech how he maintains a level of calm I could never begin to dream of matching. Oh I suppose if I had a few hundred years I could absorb the amount of information he has inside his head, but I could still never remain calm the way he does. How can he not go crazy with all that information? How does he remain optimistic? Why does society consider his approach, logic and philosophy to be so beyond mainstream politics? What a sad statement on society that we do not embrace him. How brainwashed are we as a society? Are we beyond repair? I love reading his works, but at the same time I feel angrier and angrier the more I read. He's remains optimistic, how so?Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1160940915774039472006-10-15T20:31:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:58.134+01:00Something strangeRecently LOVEFiLM.com bought ScreenSelect. I logged in to the new web site and the page it first brought up was the US White House web site. This was strange for obvious reasons - I didn't realise there was any connection. Also, I've been reading novels like a madman - I've read all the Harry Potter books (including the latest)! And just so you don't think I'm a total dork, I'm now reading The Da Vinci Code, just to throw in a bit of spice last weekend I read Michael Moore's, Dude, Where's My Country? I think Michael Moore is amazing - his patience at trying to deal with those idiots that vote Bush is something to be admired (in addition to his knowledge and position on the issues). I myself would rather call them a bunch of stupid ass fuckwits - keeps me warm at night.

A few news items I've been following:

- "Roberts, he's not gay-friendly, he's the conservative, bastard, monster you thought he was," said the neo-cons recently. Yes, he did some pro-bono work on the Romer v Evans, but the right wing has had to reassure their base he's not gay friendly at all! What the fuck is that about?

- Cindy Sheehan. How can that dork, Twig, drive by a woman who's son died in that war brought on by profit induced lies without granting her 5 minutes? Twig, you're a bastard; you KILLED her son! On top of that there are those stupid bitches who have the audacity to speak for Cindy's son. Oh my fucking gawd. Michelle Malkin, you're stupid bitch! It's women like Michelle that challenge my ideals to the core and I have to really ask myself, "why did we give women the right to vote?"(wry grin)

- Americans and vacations. What is it about the middle states that they keep voting to keep themselves down? Why do they continue to vote against their own best interests? I don't get it. The hypocrisy (re: in this case, yearly holiday pay) of this administration is incredible. Utterly amazing. Must be all the MTBEs and mercury and all that other crap they're letting into the water supply.

- Rove. Why isn't that bastard fired and in jail yet sharing a cell with Delay??

- Speaking of Delay, read the story about Jack Abramoff and the fraud charges with the casino boat?

And for my pet story, the Liberal Democrat leader in Europe has called for legalisation of drugs. Story here.Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1122125572056829472005-07-23T14:23:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:57.497+01:00More excitement in London, sigh.Connected to the 7/7 bombings, or a group of miscreants who aren't smart enough to tie their own shoes?

We (my friends and I) got word about the latest set of activities while on hols this week (sitting on an open top tourist bus in Rome). I travelled back late Thursday night, and given it was my local station that was affected I had to take a cab. The cabbie wasn't even sure how close he could get me to my flat, but we took a back route in and got here, thank goodness. What the hell is going on here? The UK has already announced it is going to reduce troops in Iraq. Many people in this country did NOT support the war to start with. What is the fucking message here? The UK is NOT the US - the UK is NOT leading this whole fucking fight. I suppose it's about as logical as the US invading Iraq over this whole terrorist problem after 9/11.Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1121452804255327302005-07-15T19:17:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:57.431+01:00On holsTomorrow a friend turns 40 and a group of us is going to celebrate (mourn) in Italy for the next week, back on Friday the 22nd. Not taking a computer with me, for a change, so I'll have much to catch up on when I return.

I hope, hope, hope to have good news during my holiday that Rove has been fed to the wolves and there is nothing left but a shoe and cell phone, but based on some of the reports I've been reading the past couple of days it seems there may be something much, much bigger bubbling up, something that may take the entire administration down. In which case, there may be no progress at all on the Rove matter.

Keep an eye on this David Kay story I've read about. But ask yourself, who's Judith Miller's source - it's not Rove, so who could it be? (Cheney, Tenet, Kay?) And one more thing, why the hell is there not a HUGE backlash against Corncob Novak? He did nothing illegal (from what I understand), but he IS the one that exposed Plame to the world - he should burn in hell. If Rove goes down, this would be the second time that Rove bit it over a situation with Novak (Rove was fired from George senior's campaign over leaking a story to Novak - seems father has more scruples than son, not many more, but a few, enough to know Rove is the devil incarnate). How can Novak keep getting away scott free?Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1121418774393165612005-07-14T16:21:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:57.361+01:00Bush is a fucking MORON!On war and Iraq:

"But Iraq has-have got people there that are willing to kill, and they're hard-nosed killers. There is no meat on a resolution demanding Isreal tear down the barrier if they don't back it up by divesting in those companies that enable the construction of it (and the killing of Palestinians).

Is it for fear of being labelled anti-semites? (a tactic favoured by pro-Israel groups) Is it for fear that fire and graffiti in the wake of the gay marriage endorsement would pale in comparison to the backlash from pro-Israel groups? I think it's both, and I think that non-White non-Christians are seen as less valuable than gays. Poor Palestinians to be viewed as less than gays.Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1121258215520213802005-07-13T13:26:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:57.212+01:00Nature vs. Nurture: Who the fuck cares?Every time I read an article like this, I get so angry. The whole nature vs. nurture debate has gone on far too long. There's even a poll on the MSNBC web site, but they left one critical choice out - 1) who the fuck cares?

The proper answer is to resist being pulled into the debate about whether one was born that way or society made someone that way, it's not relevant. I don't give a fuck. If someone wants to be with someone of the same sex, fine. If someone wants to be with the opposite sex, fine. If someone wants to pick and choose and cross the line back and forth, I'm jealous as hell that their pool is bigger, but that's their choice. It makes no difference when this kicks in, whether it's at birth, or they wait till later in life. I don't care, neither should you.

The issue here is civil rights for all. To go down the path of this debate I feel is dangerous. If it's nature, they'll try and come up with a genetic "cure" or they'll come up with a test which will allow them to abort fetuses that have this gene. If it's societal, they'll continue these brainwashing programmes that tell you how horrible a person you are for choosing this lifestyle, and how happiness lies on the other side of the fence and all you have to do is cross your legs women and spritz some perfume on, and men just need to pick up an axe and spit more. Fuck off, is my response. It's none of your fucking business who I climb into bed with and why I'm this way - to try and identify a reason implies homosexuality is wrong. Sorry, but that's a judgment and I don't give a shit what you think about my bedroom antics.

It's my choice, it's my business and I'll thank you to stay out of it.Williamnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13638344.post-1121252810437822032005-07-13T11:57:00.000+01:002006-10-28T20:23:57.145+01:00Steel toe, Rove's ass, insert with swinging thrustHere are a couple of petitions you can sign to show your support for getting that crook fired.

MoveOn

John Kerry

I signed both.

14 July Update - I just found another one: Air America Radio.Williamnoreply@blogger.com
