Chicken Little confirms, "sky is falling"

A 62-year old woman became dizzy and nauseous after riding the Matterhorn Bobsled roller coaster at Disneyland, so they closed the ride for about a day to inspect it for safety reasons. I shit you not. They even took her to the hospital. Story here. Dizzyness and nausea - fucking hell, that's the stupidest reaction I've ever heard. What would you think riding a roller coaster at age 62 would do?

Yes, it's true, Chicken Little, the sky is indeed falling.

If sports is news, why isn't news sport?

I really can't stand watching sports - there are a few I enjoy, but not watching them. Too much tribalism causing unecessary violence and stupidity. If kids today spent half as much time on academics as they do on sports, the world would be a much smarter place to live. And I don't believe for a second that a kid that can learn the batting averages of every player in the league isn't capable of learning English, maths, history, etc. It's a matter of social priorities. But I digress. I read news from a variety of sources, and the news feeds I subscribe to include News, Politics, World News, US News, etc. There is always the option of reading the sports pages, but I choose not to. I find it strange that Sports ends up on my News and World News pages, but I have yet to go to a Sports page and see anything about the Iraq war (that isn't Iraq soccer team related) or politics or poverty or whatever else you might find on a news page. Why is that? I want Sports out of my News sections, and I'll agree to keep News out of Sports - doesn't that seem fair?

War on drugs, waste of money

The UN published a report on the illegal drug trade, stating that in 2003 the drug trade generated an estimated $321.6B, or 0.9% of the world's GDP or higher than the GDP of 88% of the countries of the world.

Think of the tax revenues the world is foregoing by pursuing this futile war. Think now about how much governments spend on trying to fight this war. What a fucking waste of our energy. For some stupid reason governments believe that they can win this war - funny, there are no signs of it abating. It's not something you squash - think of it more like a balloon you hold in your hands, when you squeeze part of it, the rest of it pops out the other side. Think about what good we could do with both the money saved from fighting the stupid war, and the tax revenues from this huge industry. Also think about how controlling this industry would clean it up and how much safer people would be because of government controls on production quality and distribution.

I am reminded of a line from a Live song (Sanctity of Dreams),

I believe society will never dream like me

How is pacifism promoting terrorism?

The argument is illogical. But the issue of violence is so ingrained in our culture, no one is able to think outside the box. Violence in our society is so pronounced that the right wing accuses the left wing of being pacifists, and the left wing denies it, as if it's not a noble cause or nobel objective. I'm flabbergasted at the treatment of pacifism as a hot potato. What is so fucking great about going out and killing people because you have an opinion, or even better, because you think someone's going to do something to you, or because they did something to you - that's justification, yeah. Has humanity not progressed or evolved beyond our caveman origins? I understand the concept of tribalism (isn't that what sports and religion are all about?) but we have a choice - I can't understand why we must continue choosing violence. When violence is an option on the table, violence is always the choice made. It's easy, it takes no brain power, imagination, strength or courage - it's so banal.

The reason I'm ranting on this subject is the latest from people like Gush Pimbaugh claiming that liberals seek the defeat of the military. Yeah, so fucking what? Is there anything wrong with wanting to do away with violence? It's so easy to sit there and accuse people of being pacifists as if it's a bad thing, but he's not out there on the front lines pulling those triggers and putting his life on the line. Sure is easy to kill people from the comfort of your bully pulpit. Fuck you, Gush. And then there's those that imply liberals are actually terrorist supporters. Wow, what a fucking leap that is - I think that requires wings to get across a gully that wide. But, this argument fuels Halliburton and Cheney and Bush and all those cronies by allowing them to keep dredging up 9/11.

Come on liberals - this is an issue we need to start taking the high ground on, educating people (which the right wing opposes because people start questioning... vicious cycle), promoting non-violent solutions to the world's problems. But, then they might not get re-elected. Oh, fucking hell, get over it.

I remind everyone of a line from a Live song:

The crucifix ain't no baseball bat
Tell me what kind of God is that?
Ain't nothing more godless than a war
So what are we fightin' for?

This is one of the biggest reasons I am not religious - I was taught growing up that gawd is loving and caring and that's what religion is about. In reality, it's a big stick that is used to kill anyone not in your religion. So, either what they promote in church is wrong and their gawds are vengeful, or they don't practice what they preach. Either way, it's not for me - too hypocritical.

Bush moves America backwards, neighbor moves forward

What a slap in the face to Bush this will be - the rest of the world is moving forward leaving America in the dust regarding civil rights. Holland and Belgium already allow gay marriages, Spain is getting close, Canada now. The land of the free is becoming the land of the not-so-free (except for one tiny state). Hooyah, Canada!

iTunes 4.9 released today, supports Podcasting!

This is so fucking cool. iTunes has integrated podcasting into its latest version released today. I've been busy subscribing to podcasts I listen to and downloading them. What I think is significant about this move is that it makes it that much easier to download podcasts to your machine (and mp3 player if you have one). The significance in my mind about this is that it somehow legitimises even more the whole notion of podcasting. Integrated now into the iTunes music store is the ability to subscribe to podcasts. Now, not all the kinks are worked out... two of my favourite podcasts (anything from Air America Radio and Lucky Bitch Radio) are not available for subscription (but they both work fine in iPodderX). But, I found out about a few I hadn't subscribed to, which is cool.

This is a revolution in the way that news and information is disseminated. This changes media and the way the public consumes information. This is major. Today it's voice on an mp3 player, tomorrow, it's video.

Wow!

Caught out of costume

Our friend and horrid enemy, Karl Rove, without makeup.

And now out in full regalia.

(sorry, didn't search all that long - too pissed off)

Karl Rove is an evil person, anyone who disagrees is not aware of this man's true colors; they are blood red, flowing from the innocent lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Diplomacy vs. Bushies

You should have seen by now news about Italy's anger over 13 CIA agents spending $150K on a trip through Italy - oh no, that's no one in the US' procurement department that is upset. No, Italy is upset over the kidnapping of an Egyptian from the streets of Milan without notifying the Italian authorities.

Former President and Prime Minister Francesco Cossiga said, "it would also be opportune to remind the American government, in the right ways, that the Republic of Italy is an independent and sovereign state."

NOOOO! No fucking way - Italy should NOT remind the US, "in the right ways." The US forfeited that right long ago when they shat diplomacy down the throats of the rest of the world. The US is trodding over the rights of all of us, no matter where you are - fuck those Bush bastards, they deserve to rot in hell. Fuck diplomacy, fuck proper procedures, fuck laws, because that fucking murderer in the white house and his fucking future convict friends (and they will be brought to justice - it'll just take awhile) will NOT be able to count all their oil dollars.

So sayeth ME.

Corruption increases in Iraq

Iraqis thank US for poking its fucking oil drenched nose in areas it knows nothing about. "Thank you, Twig-Cheney and your fellow oil slimy friends," they say with heartfelt thanks.

I think not.

Well, one thing that is consistent, is that the corruption in Iraq is no more than the corruption in rubblecan-controlled DC. We both sah-loot our dictator, I mean leader, "Hi, Littler-Bush, Hi, Littler, Hi, Littler."

Get ready for them to ask for your "papieren" er I mean "ID cards."

US takes another step toward war with Iran

Halliburton and Cheney declare, "Hooyah! It doesn't matter they don't have nuclear bomb capabilities, our pocketbooks are more important than any lives that may suffer. Iran and 9/11 - they were in cahoots! Now let's go take away more money from education spending so we have no educated Americans who may question our policy. The rest we will send to Gitmo-abusin and call them an-oh-me coam-bah-tuhnt - Americans are so stupid they'll not know the term and just bend over while we give it to them with our teenie weenies, hehehehehe!!"

Just wait and see.

We need to get these muther fuckers out of power - they are Satan's toe jam.

Story here.

And the pendulum swings back to full pessimism

The promotion of one religion is the attack on every other religion and non-religion. Fuck freedom of religion - what about freedom from religion?!?!

Jilted ex-lover, or former abuse victim?

Inquiry into 'gay' minister hoax

Police have been called in after a news release was circulated to the media in which a Scottish government minister appeared to "out" himself.

Supreme Court backs Bill of Rights

Some good news appears, pushing my persistent case of pessimism a notch or two in the direction of optimism (the pendulum still has a long way to go, though).

Today the US Supreme Court ruled Kentucky county courthouses can not display the ten commandments. Separation of church and state now stands a chance at survival.

Forgive me if I don't buy current views from congressional visitors to Gitmo-abusin

How fucking stupid do you think we are? First of all, these congress people have never been to Gitmo-abusin before and their comments are, "the Guantanamo we saw today is not the Guantanamo we heard about a few years ago." What a stupid fucking statement that is. The Gitmo-abusin we heard about a few years ago didn't reveal the abuse we know of today. So, that's my first comment.

The other comment I have is that this was a fucking dog-and-pony-show. Hello?!?! How stupid are you? Do you not think that everyone was on their best behaviour? "If you don't mind your Ps&Qs I'll fucking blow your fucking Muzzie nuts off, you fucking morons. No more orange chicken in the tropics for you, towel heads." That's the brief the inmates got - I shit you not.

Grant the UN and the Red Cross full access as they are requesting and let me read their report. Until then, forgive me for not being a fucking "blind faith" moron.

Something good DOES happen in Israel

I'm not an Isreal fan at all, but I'm also not an anti-semite. So, my cynical side is pleasantly surprised when I read positive stories about Israel concerning gays. Not sure if you've been watching, but Jerusalem's mayor was trying to stop the gay pride parade this year in the city. A Jerusalem court overruled that bastard and ordered him to pay court fees to the gay organisation that brought the matter to court. Fucking cool!

Story here.

Rumsie-boy says, "pay no attention to US meetings with Iraqi insurgents"

Interesting comments he made to faux news, "I would not make a big deal out of it... Meetings go on frequently with people... I think the attention to this is overblown."

Now why would Rumsie-boy go on television and say that? Could it be because the US is so inept at dealing with Middle East issues that the talks broke down in utter failure? Maybe. Could it be because it wasn't Iraqi insurgents the US officials met with? Maybe. Could it be because talks are continuing and they want to keep things quiet until an official agreement is made regarding the violence in Iraq? Doubtful.

Why is it that Rupert Mudoch's companies seems to be getting all the news in this regard? (He owns the Times where this article appeared, and he owns Fox News, where Rumsie boy denied the importance of the meetings) Could it be that these stories are fabricated to boost Rupert Mudoch's viewership? There's some linkage here - why is Rupert's organisation blowing these stories out of the water first, before "the liberal press"?

One more thought. You don't think it was the US poking the hornet's nest a bit? Conspiracy theories can sometimes be fun to ponder. Those rubblecans, they sure like wars, and if they can continue this false linkage between 9/11 and Iraq, their hold on the US citizens in their grasp for more power will only continue. The longer this war goes on, the richer Cheney and his cronies get.

Air America Radio has a new great show

I've been a big fan of Mother Jones magazine for years - it's one of the magazines I currently subscribe to, even living here in the UK. I remember one of the first issues I received when I first subscribed years ago was an expose on the Bushies and the utter corruption of that family. Surprise?

Air America Radio is one of my favourite sources of news, especially since you can subscribe to both news feeds and their podcasts using software like iPodder or iPodderX (for those of us who love our Macs). This flexibility allows me (and you) to listen to these great radio shows at our leisure, which for me being GMT I find it a bit difficult to listen when the shows are actually airing in the US.

This I believe is the first MoJo show, which aired on the 19th (it's a weekly, one hour show). They haven't set up a way to subscribe to the podcasts yet, but you can download the first show's mp3 file here. Give it a go.

Spy in the enemy camp?

Tony Blair's oldest son, Euan, is graduating soon from Bristol University and is starting as an intern for rubblecans in DC, working for the Committee on Rules in the House.

So, is it Blair sending a spy into the enemy camps? Or the Bliar, Bliar empire showing its true colours? Maybe England is going to try and re-claim the colonies that broke away by sending in this trojan horse? Or maybe the lapdog got his orders to sacrifice his eldest son to the rubblecan scheme machine volcano. Wonder how many "not-one-fucking-things" Britain got in return.

You be the judge, story here.

A Good Woman, a great movie

Just got back from seeing the movie, A Good Woman, based on Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan. What a fantastically, enjoyable movie! No one writes dialogue like Oscar - how fucking witty that man was. All the one liners I wish I could remember and add to my repetoire. I've read bits of (and seen the movie) The Importance of Being Earnest, but I really must go out and get more of his works. I love Helen Hunt, and I'm sure Scarlett Johansson will be one of my favourites over the coming years. I won't say anything and give anything away in the movie, so go see it yourself.

It's funny, the whole movie I kept picturing Stephen Fry (Wilde) - if you haven't seen that movie, I strongly suggest it too. I recently had the privilege of sitting near Stephen Fry at a Stonewall function here in London, and he was amazing. He was talking about the age of consent and told hilarious stories about getting worked up at political dinners and jumping on the table screaming, "it's consent, it's consent, it's consent." Guess you had to be there.

Freedom of Speech = RIght to Burn a Flag!

Now I'm not a flag burner - it's not an act I'd choose to express my opposition to any policy. It's meant to inflame, incite, anger and generally to get someone's attention. I can think of other better ways to achieve the same, but that's my personal choice. I would never take away anyone's right to choose that act to make their statement. It's a form of speech, and it's wrapped up in this symbol which is nothing more than fabric and ink and thread. Does what the flag stands for not have the strength to survive desecration of its symbol? If it wouldn't survive, we're in trouble. But, I thought what the flag stands for was incredibly strong - perhaps I am wrong.

There's a great line in the film, "The American President," where Michael Douglas is addressing the issue of flag burning, the ACLU and the Bill of Rights:

Everybody knows America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say, "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free, then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest." Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free.

Woody Harrelson, I'm dreaming of YOU?

I know Ragan Fox hates it when people tell others about their dreams, but for some strange reason I had a dream last night about Woody Harrelson talking me into creating my own podcast. Then he let me kiss him. It was quite erotic. I think it was his first kiss with another man; I was Woody Harrelson's first man snog.

I wonder if doing my own podcast would be as erotic??

He's not typically the type of guy I go after, but for some reason in my dream he was spot on. What do you think that's all about? I've been considering doing my own podcast for some time now, but I'm not sure whether the message of the dream is, "go for it" or "go for it with a hard-on." Hmmmm, something to ponder.

Rumsie boy, "We're not losing." Really? What's losing, what's winning?

I'd like to know what Donnie boy's criteria are for success and failure in Iraq.

Lack of pullout plan?

Lack of protection for the troops?

More Halliburton no-bid contracts?

More Halliburton scandals?

More Iraqi innocents dead?

More American soldiers dead?

More abusin at Gitmo and abu-geeerehhhb?

No WMD?

Let me remind you of this picture.

Now, let me paint a scenario. Currently, China is considered more popular in the world than the US. Now, let's imagine that China were to invade the US and install a new government, ala Chinese style.

How do you think Americans would react? Think about this seriously for a moment.

Do you think they'd take up arms against these invading Chinese? Do you think they might attack the government that China helped to install? Do you think they might be violent in their protests? Do you think they'd be against any action initiated by those Chinese? Of course, the answer to every one of those questions is FUCKING-HELL, YES!

Now think about the situation in Iraq. The US invaded a country on false pretenses, removed a dictator (I could draw lots of parallels to our friend, twiggie), installed a government (in its own image, how sweet) and is training a new police force and army. Is it any wonder people have taken up arms against this??

The reaction by the locals against the illegal invasion is in direct response to the level of violence heaped upon the people of this country. They defend their country, they're called terrorists. The US violently takes a country's sovereignty and they're the good guys? I think NOT. If I lived there I'd be just as violently opposed to the occupation of my country. Now let me remind you in Hollywood terms - go watch the film, Red Dawn.

One final question, "Where's Osama?"

A sign of things to come at Gitmo-abusin?

Inmates demanding improved prison conditions in Ecuador's jails have begun mutilating themselves in an effort to publicise their cause.

At least one man was voluntarily crucified, while two women sewed their lips shut to illustrate their support for a prison hunger strike.

Hundreds of other inmates in Ecuador's 34 jails have been protesting since Monday over sentencing and conditions.

They want electricity, running water and early release for good behaviour.

Rest of story here. Inmates require basic rights too, no?

Rehabilitation, bigotry or extreme retribution?

Italy's government has introduced a bill that would allow the state to castrate convicted rapists, in response to a string of rapes in the north of Italy, by suspected illegal immigrants. Story here.

Seems a bit extreme to me, especially if you get the wrong person. Ooops, sorry.

Stand up Dems!

Cajones - are the Dems growing them? I'm so thrilled to see Dems standing up and fighting back, not just lying there taking it time after time. I still don't agree that Durbin needed to apologise - he had nothing to apologise for, especially when leading rubblecans say far worse things, latest example, take that unethical, corrupt, immoral rubblecan, Karl Rove. I highly suggest reading this short expose on Karl Rove printed last year in the Guardian here in the UK - how can people support a man (Bush) that is in bed with this corrupt bastard? Where is integrity? Do not ethics and morals play a role anywhere in today's politics? I wouldn't associate with anyone that had that bad a reputation, especially if I were a politician, where the smallest hints of impropriety can lose an election. But I guess not when you're a rubblecan and your main tenets are corruption, greed, murder, theft, rape, pillage, deceit, hypocrisy, power and violence. How can anyone in their right mind vote rubblecan? I don't understand. We are worse off in every way imaginable, and rubblecans say they have your best interests at heart, when in reality they only care about their corporate crony buddies. Don't be fooled, and question everything.

Thanks, Bush!

Seems the Bushies' arrogant campaign to set the world to right is making them legends in their own minds (and pocket books), and nowhere else.

NPR, All Things Considered yesterday discussed the world's views on America, and evidently China is more popular than the US.

Thanks, twiggie, we're all a bit less safe now, and it took thousands of lives to achieve that.

Racism, or a diva not getting her way?

Paris store apologises to Oprah

Luxury French boutique Hermes has apologised to talk show host Oprah Winfrey after refusing her entry to one of their outlets in Paris.

A friend of Winfrey, who witnessed the incident, said it "one of the most humiliating moments of her life".

Hermes said a private PR event was being prepared so it was unable to accommodate the star at the time.

Winfrey tried to access the store after closing time, while shops are known to make exceptions for celebrities.

Stop the Insanity!

Sven lover 'boasted in e-mails'

Faria Alam
Miss Alam is said to have sent a series of e-mails about her affairs
A Football Association secretary "bragged" in e-mails about her affairs with Sven-Goran Eriksson and a senior official, a tribunal has heard.

Faria Alam, 39, resigned from her post at the FA last August after her affairs with the England coach and FA chief executive Mark Palios became public.

FA lawyers said she wrote: "I want to be...very very rich" in one e-mail.

Miss Alam denies resigning in order to make money from newspapers and is claiming unfair dismissal.

Rest of story here.

Why are we paying attention to these STUPID fucking stories? I don't give a shit who's buggering who, or who's sticking a fucking cigar up who's twat, or who's having an affair with which stupid nanny over the phone - FUCKING-HELL, let's stop paying attention to these stupid sex-based stories which invade private lives of people, most of which are silly girls wanting to make a buck. On the flip side, why can men not keep their fucking cocks in their pants and stop shagging stupid people? She fucking "bragged" about wanting to get rich - hello? Cock motivation? I guess there's no other reason to suck that ugly thing!

Dems cave again

Like Rachel Maddow (although I'm not nearly as eloquent or intelligent or amazing as her) I don't like nazi or other war analogies when speaking about the current wars we are engaged in. But the most recent words of Illinois Senator Dick Durbin on the floor of the senate do NOT require an apology - this is the Dems again caving in to the fucking, "you called me a white Christian" conservative rubblecans. There is nothing that Durbin needs to apologise for - he spoke only the truth and used a poor analogy. The comparison (though one I would not choose) was accurate. And considering the right wing's penchant for Nazi analogies, it's hypocrisy for them to cry foul, but that's their middle name.

The bigger issue here is, "a fish rots from the head down." Yet, why isn't the public attacking the head?

Stop Cheney's profits, bring the troops home.

An attempt at civility

I'm so angry these days at the corruption and vitriol and lying and manipulation of the right wing that I've for the most part set civility aside because they aren't civil. They accuse, they condemn they spread lies and rumours and they are corrupt and they exploit those without money and those without education, and those without adequate access to unbiased (and the US is not an unbiased press country) news. I recently signed on to Move America Forward's Yahoo! group so I could get access to their readership - it's awful, it's just repeating the spoon fed lies that the right wing keeps on feeding their initiates. In an attempt to break through a little bit, I'm trying to be civil. I'm sure it won't last long, and I'm almost as sure that my post there won't be accepted, but here it is, in full...

I am all for moving America forward, and that starts with bringing the troops home. Getting them out of harm's way, removing them from the firing line of Dick Cheney's Halliburton fueled (pun intended), George Bush initiated attack on America - we are worse off with terrorism, we pay huge amounts of money in taxes to continue this war which Halliburton benefits from (and Cheney). The latest email from MAF is riddled with hated, vitriol and lies.

"The U.S. treatment of enemy combatants is unmatched"

Unmatched by whom? "Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others." Not them. They matched it. They topped it.

"Our troops are NOT torturers"

Says??? I think there is photographic proof to counter this claim. How naive does the MAF think their readership is?

"enough is enough of the liberal media attacking our troops and only reporting on every piece of bad news they can find"

The term "liberal media" is thrown around so willy-nilly these days that no one even begins to question what the heck it actually means. Why succomb to propaganda (which in this case is conservative). There is no such thing as "liberal media" - it simply doesn't exist. On my blog is a post (http://fucking-hell.blogspot.com/2005/06/why-i-love-bbc.html) with a link to an article ranking the US as 22nd in the world regarding "freedom of press," (one of our 10 tenets of freedom). There is no way "liberal media" and "22nd in the world" mesh. The media is corporation sponsored, and therefore at the whim of the corporation. Please on my blog read the following post - http://fucking-hell.blogspot.com/2005/06/why-i-love-bbc.html

Liberals and the liberal media want nothing more than to protect and save American lives, and most of all, to bring the troops home. We too are Americans, and we have family and friends in Iraq, and don't ever forget that.

Send this organisation (which is running an ultra conservative campaign in middle America) an email voicing your opinion (which I hope is counter to theirs, but I don't squelch, so if you support them, it would be hypocritical of me to suggest silence).
